codomomental bulletin #17

On December 15, codomomental announced a new “virtual project”, which, apparently, will be a meta-universe of virtual artists. Simultaneously, as part of this project, there was the long-awaited debut of Kodama Ema, a virtual singer/youtuber.

Kodama Ema was an inhabitant of the yokai world, but in August 2022 she was kicked out to the human world for some reason. Since then, she remembers almost nothing. Once in the human world, Ema started googling, trying to understand why this happened, and found out that the yokai powers depended on their degree of fame. From which she assumed that she had never been able to do anything meaningful in the yokai world, and she became enthusiastic about doing something in the human world. Nevertheless, people could not see Ema. She was walking around the city, trying to reach out to someone, and by some miracle the head of the codomomental, Nobuhide Imamura, was able to hear her voice. He helped the girl in her new endeavors so that other people could see and hear her too. Ema’s goal is to make friends with humans and become better known so that she can gradually regain her yokai powers and the memory of her past life.

“A forbidden story begins,” proclaims the lyrics of “can you hear ‘A’ me,” Kodama Ema’s debut song. In it, Ema also shows her rebellious and emotional nature, expressing feelings of loneliness and a desire to bond with her listeners/audience.

When I close my eyes, there.
The past I don’t want to remember.
The tears, the miniature garden.
The feelings I have hidden deep within me.

A firm oath. Embracing red.

The last phrase of the song is a reference to Kisaragi Megumi, whose big fan Ema is. According to her, she actively stalks Megumi (in which the yokai powers help her quite well).

Sometimes there comes a moment when you have to leave your comfy place. But it’s okay, the world is probably a very big place, everything will be fine.

Translation: get out of the futon!
