codomomental bulletin #21

Last week, TOKYO TEFUTEFU gathered at training camp to, after going through various challenges, grow, and enter a period of new accomplishments. You can see a few snippets of the process on the group’s official Twitter, and here I am posting a translation of a video in which the members share their feelings and spirit for the future:

What used to be my dream has now become a lot of people’s dream.
It was three days that allowed me to make sure that if with these members, if with our ‘mirages,’ I can still achieve a lot.
We will continue to sing to touch and save as many hearts as we can.1

I believe that if with these members, and if with all of you, I can achieve anything. If you keep on living, I’m sure to show you something wonderful. If you’re going to get into us, now is the time to do it! Hey, hey, hey!2

I’ve been a shut-in my whole life, I had no stamina at all, and when I first joined “Tefutefu,” I couldn’t even run properly, but now I’m able to run smoothly without stopping.3

As a reward for their efforts, the girls received new workout shoes4, and several announcements were made.

First, a major solo concert was announced for April 8 at Ebisu LIQUIDROOM, just over a year after the group’s first attempt to conquer the venue. We should expect some major announcement after the show5.

Secondly, an EP has been announced that will contain the group’s old songs re-recorded with the current lineup. The release is titled “Shoen, Tou” (初焉、問フ) and is due out March 226. The first word of the title is a kanji play – the character “終” (end) in “終焉” (last moments of life, death; a very rare literary word) has been replaced by “初” (beginning), which reversed the meaning of the word. The word “問フ” (stylized in Old Japanese spelling) means “to ask, to make sure”.

The album’s tracklisting is already known7:

1. double
2. cry more again
3. genshou (?) (幻傷)
4. effect pain spiral
5. innocence soar

Under the third number is the song “phantom pain”, the title of which has been literally translated into Japanese (probably to better align with the traditional Japanese sound of the song).

There’s a lot of fun here, but also a lot of pain and hardship. But that’s why the enjoyment and the impressions are also amplified several times over. I say this all the time, but we firmly, to the point of pain, know what it means.8

Everyone starts out as a ‘nobody,’ and over time they become someone. By creating an environment in which day after day, month after month you can see such growth, one day such a moment finally comes. And the more moments like that, the more glad I am to keep doing it.9

I realized that there is nothing more important than life, and so now I am not attached to anything.
I will create and protect a place where you can be you, where I can be me, and where we can fully realize ourselves. If I can’t do that, I’m ready to destroy everything.
I just want to live in this world as a simple human, sincere and without lies, thinking of others.10
